Blue Dragons Open BFL Season with Dominant 34–3 Victory Over Wild Dogs

Belgrade Blue Dragons successfully opened their new Balkan Football League (BFL) campaign with a convincing 34–3 home victory over Novi Sad Wild Dogs in the opening round. The Dragons established control early, taking a commanding 20–0 lead into halftime.

Both teams entered the matchup with a significant number of rookies and players who had seen limited playing time during the regular season in Serbia’s SAF League and Hungary’s HFL Premier Division. Several experienced veterans also featured, providing valuable leadership and support to their younger teammates.

One of the standout performers was Igor Rokvić, the Dragons’ experienced tight end, who has taken on the quarterback role for this year’s Balkan Football League campaign. Despite playing the position for the first time in his career, Rokvić delivered an impressive performance, throwing three touchdown passes, scoring a rushing touchdown, and successfully converting a two-point attempt.

Other notable contributors for the Blue Dragons included wide receivers Mateja Minić, who found the end zone twice, and Andrej Horn, who also scored a touchdown. Nikola Lekić added to the scoreboard with a pick-six, returning an interception for a defensive touchdown.

The Wild Dogs’ only points came courtesy of Nikola Boškov, who successfully converted a field goal to make the final score 34–3.

Looking ahead, the Blue Dragons intend to continue using the Balkan Football League as an opportunity to develop young and inexperienced players, as well as athletes from other clubs looking to prove themselves and earn a place on the roster for the 2027 Hungarian HFL Premier Division season.

The club’s objective is to make the BFL a platform for player development, valuable game experience, and emerging talent, while also encouraging competitive and exciting matchups.

For many players, this competition represents an important opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and compete for a place on the senior roster ahead of preparations under the team’s American head coach, scheduled to begin in mid-January.

The opening round delivered a dominant victory for the Dragons, but the remainder of the BFL season will provide further opportunities for young players to showcase their potential and fight for a place among the Dragons in 2027.
